RAILWAY FIRE BRIGADE
HILLSIDE’S GREAT RECORD. The annual meeting of (lip Hillside Railway Workshops Eire Brigade was hold inthe- social hall. Hillside, hist -Monday evening. Captain Morrison presided -over a full attendance of active and honorary members. The annual report stated that thirty musters and practices were hold during the rear, with an average of over eleven mil- of twelve per muster* This was very satisfactory, and went- to show the, keen interest the members took in- the brigade. The department- was attending to the brigade's wants liberally. The brigade had 1 recently received 500 ft of new hose. A competition for prizes presented by the brigade, and open only to members outside of the team which represented the brigade, at the last united lire brigades’ demonstration, was held in the Workshops yard in April last. It wa.s very keenly erntested, ilydrantma-n A. Davies being first, ilydrantma-n (’. Lenfller second, and Lieutenant Swanson -third. The team which represented the brigade at Bio United Eire Brigades’ Association demonstration at Napier and won such high honors was selected to represent the brigat?* at the recent. ILE.B.A. demonstration- at Dunedin, and was again successful in winning, the New • Zealand championship. This team's record 1 out of twp-nty-spvcn starts is fifteen firsts, (on seconds, and two thirds, a record unrivalled in Ihe history of (he U.E.B.A. Captain Morrison was to ho congratulated on winning theGilhcrd Memorial event, in whirl), ho putup a: New Zealand record- of fi'ffis-ee, and the success of the team was undoubtedly doe in. the able manner in which il was lei! and coached by him. The brigade was in a satisfactory position fi-uanciallv.
The election -of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Captain, A. Morrison fre-elorted 1 ) : lieutenant, O. Swanem (re-elected) ; foreman. G, Harrison (-re-elected): secretary. E. Burgess (reelected) : treasurer. A. Gallagher; .auditors—Captain Morrison and Branehman Rushatch; roinmillee—Lieutenant Swanson, Branchman Rusbaich, and Hydrantman Lcoffler.
