Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. new"YORK, July 23, _ A telegram from San Bernardino (California) states that the earthquake considerably damaged that city. Many buildings were unroofed. Later reports show filial Southern California, was shaken liy a. series of shocks commencing shortly alter midnight and ending at 1 o’clock. Buildings wero damaged in many towns, and inmates of the prisons and asylums were panic-stricken. .Several sections report that the telephone and telegraphic 'communications were severed.—A. and N.Z.
