INSANE CONVICTS
THE ILLINOIS AFFAIR. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, NEW YORK, July 23. A message from Chester says that tho asylum authorities now admit that tho number of recaptured insane is incorrect. Twenty-five are still .at large. The officials uleo admit that 227 insane convicts participated in the riot. Tho majority of tlioso who escaped are believed to be armed, and all are desperate characters. Business is suspended in all tho neighboring towns, while armed guards patrol the streets. Tho shops and dwellings arc barricaded, and large forces are scouring the bills in search of themissing men.—A. and N.Z. Cable. NEW YORK, July 24. (Received July 25. at 9.25 a.in.) A telegram, from Cluster says that seventeen insane convicts are still at large. They are being hunted by bloodhounds. Eight fugitives were recaptured during the night. The authorities believe that a general escape of all the prisoners was planned by outside confederates, who smuggled luiives and weapons into the exercise pen. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
