BOARD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors was held last- night, the president (Mr J. B. Waters) occupying the chair. The General Secretary reported that- the work of the mouth had been much interfered with by wintry weather and the influenza, the matron having had thirtythree cases from amongst the residents of the building on her hands. The house department reported the building full. The boys’ work department reported (hat much work had been done by volunterr bands in kalsomining, painting, and papering, and especially emphasised the satisfactory state of the primary school boys, who meet every Saturday. The other clubs amongst business hoys, secondary school boys, and nows boys were also reported upon. The physical department reported on the month’s work in the gymnasium and in the field. Fifty-eight lessons were given to 507 individuals during the mouth, the total attendance being 1,380, In Rugby the fourth grade A team 3iad even six out of seven, the B team four out of six. The fifth grade had had an unsuccessful season, but, in spite of defeats, had held together. Association football and basketball were also reported upon. It was reported that the work among younger men had been maintained, even though the secretary had been moved to another department. Mi’ L, Gain had been appointed chairman of the younger men’s cabinet, and Mr L. Harris secretary. Tiie membership of this group was--137. The weekly fellowship teas, essay competitions, a mid-season football tea, oratorical contest, and leadership in the boys’ department by younger men wore all reported. In the religious work of the boys’ department clubs had maintained their study groups, as had also the younger men’s group. The residents’ Sunday morning meeting had been well attended, and much work had been done in connection with outside organisations. The financial statements showed thatthe association had improved its position by about £3OO .since March, though it had gone hack a little on the month. The question of Dr Dat-ta’s visit had been gone, into by the 'Religious Works Committee in conjunction with the Students’ Christian Union. .Alter mapping out (he programme it was found that Dr Halt a could not arrive in Dunedin before September 18. The Milton Y.M.C.A. had been reorganised with a strong hoard of directors, Mr AV. Moore acting as lion, .secretary. Tiinarn, Wakefield, and Richmond wire all going well. In the North Island the National Committee had secretaries engaged in hutment work in a .largo number of the industrial centres, and in all of the construction camps where 100 men were employed. It was pointed out that, (he smaller towns, such as Napier, Wanganui, Palmerston North, and Masterton, were all making progress out- of proportion to the progress made by even the city centres. At the same time a big, important work was being done in each of the four centres.
