On tho arrival of tho Geranium Commander Bennett stated that the vessel was dogged by ill-luck after an officer had found a strangely-shaped log lying in the bush on Turtle Island. The log was painted red and yellow. It -was hollow, and was plugged with human bones. Six aboriginals who were on board the Geranium became alarmed at tho sight of the log, muttering “ Debbil.” After experiencing a 1 number of mishaps, it was decided that the log was hoodoo, and it was resolved to land it, after which a smooth trip was enjoyed.
