NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP,

PLAY COMMENCES TOMORROW,

Play in the New Zealand Amateur Billiards" Championship commences in the Returned Soldiers’ Club to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock, the first game of the opening round being between A. Lindsay and R.° Fraser. Both are local players, and can be relied upon to give a good exhibition. Lindsay won the, BY.A. championship for two years, (he interclub championship of Dunedin last year, and has been very successful in bowling clubs’ billiards iournaments. Fraser is a wellknown player of many years experience, and lias many very meritorious performances to his credit.

Complete arrangements to ensure tho smooth running of the tournament havo been imado by tho R-.S.A. secretary (Mr A. C. Laing)." Tho games will be. played in the social hall of the BY.A. Club, the standard table having been brought downstairs from tho billiard room and set up in the hall. Mr B. TTolt has been appointed ns official marker. Messrs R. Bryant, C. Burtenshaw. and A. Hill will act in I urn as referee throughout the tournament.

Mr George Rogers, of Billiards, Ltd., Wellington, has come to Dunedin specially to fit, new cushions and tho latest appliances on the table. Although this table was built only two years ago. it has been taken to pieces and overhauled so that conditions may be as nearly perfect as it is possible to get them. Mr E. Greenwood, a, local billiards expert of the firm of Greenwood and Co., will have charge of the table during the tournament, so that competitors may rely upon its conditions being maintained. The day sessions will commence at 2 o’clock, and fho night sessions at 7. In order that the games at both day and night, sessions may be played under exactly tho same conditions, all games will be played under artificial light. Tho room lias been 1 thoroughly darkened, and six electric lights arranged over the table. Seating accommodation has been well arranged by Mr Laing. Charges will bo made ns advertised to each-session, and season tickets available for all sessions may be purchased.
