NEW ARRANGEMENTS, SIMLA, July 8. The Government has been deluged with questions in the Legislative Assembly regarding the Indianisalion of the Army. Lord R.rwlinson, Commander-ir.-Ch><?f in India, replied tersely that there are distinct British units, and arc in India for only a short while. Ho could not, admit Indians to them, though it would bo feasible to organise Indian units. Another proposal was tba* 28 per cent, of all the King’s commissions should he reserved forthwith for Indians. That was opposed on the ground that the Government was not prepared to run anv risk by a mo speedy substitutin'!. Figure? were quoted to show that out of fortythree Indian candidates at the Sandhurst College examinations only eighteen emerged successfully. It has been found that Indian officers 'are most unwilling to transfer from their present units to ihe eight units select*J for Indiamsation. The Government has announced that in future Indians leaving Sandhurst will be posted in those units without being given the option of choosing.
