ELECTRIFICATION OF RAILWAYS.

WELLINGTON, July 20.

The handicaps imposed upon Christchurch and Lyttelton as a result of the. present railway service connecting Christchurch with its port ware discussed by a deputation to the Minister of Railways, which urged the electrification of the tunnel and the duplication of the line.

The Hon J. G. Coates said that the question of the electrification of the railways was of absorbing interest, but it was a matter of the differences in the cost. He promised to give it consideration, and reply later, nfr-er consultation with the departmental experts
