LONDON, July 39. Mr Richard E. Jones, head 'of the famous firm of Welsh caterers, collapsed at the surgery door when visiting his doctor at Porthcawl, and died. He was seventy years of ago. Forty years ago Mr Jones was n compositor on tho ‘ Western Mail ’ at Cardiff, and finding it difficult to got a drink nf tea during tho midnight break he opened a tea shop, where ho sold tea at a halfpenny a cup. Ho fetched tho water and made and served the tea himself. Ho (net with such success that ho onened branches until the capital of his' firm amounted to £1,700,000, The aumuiny also owns tho Piccadilly Hotel, the I\lanchester Hotel, and other large premises in London and Wales.—A. and N.Z.
