ARMY INNOVATIONS
COALSCUTTLE BONNET AND 3ILK STOCKINGS.
[From Ode London Correspondent.] Juno 7. I wonder what old General Booth, the famous founder of the Salvation Army, who once induced Mrs Asquith to join him in prayer, kneeling in a first-class railway carriage, when Margot was off to try a now hunter, would say about the latest innovations in army uniform 7 The old man would almost certainly have rubbed hia eyes and fingered his long white beard had ho encountered a Salvation lassie in the regulation uniform with coalscuttle bonnet—and silk stockings! But apparently tho sumptuary Jaws of the army have been so far reJaxed that this concession to feminine fashion is now tolerated. Tho other evening I met two lady officers of tho famous army who sported very chic silk hoso, and whoso skirts seemed to bo cut short enough to make a reasonable revelation of tho fact. But Salvation lassies with silk stockings should arouso no embarrassing popular attention amongst Londoners, who have actually lived to see''-genuino women policemen, wearing police boots, and duly numbered on their blue uniform, using a powder puff in tho street. Tho woman policeman utilises a convenient shop window as her mirror.
