CHRISTCHURCH, July 19

Prince Ferouz and Paptiian arrived from Wellington this morning to fulfil engagements at the Grand National Mooting. It is stated that Blue Socks and Carawock will snort silk -at the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting as a preliminary to taking on thoir more important tasks at the Grand National Meeting. Pink Rose has been sent home, and can bo regarded as a doubtful starter in the Winter Cup.

Several Canterbury-trained horses left last evening to fulfil engagements at the Poverty Bay Trotting Club’s Meeting. Among them were Oakhampton, Reliance, Whetu, and Jimmy Richmond.

RUGBY.

SOLDIERS’ MATCH. [Special to the ‘ Stah.’] CHRISTCHURCH, July 19. A * representative match has been arranged between the Canterbury Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Otago R.S.A. This match is to bo played at Carisbrook on Saturday, September 8, and arrangements are now being mjdo to get together the strongest possible team of returned soldiers from Canterbury. With this end in view all first grade football teams have been communicated with, and asked to nominate returned soldier players and forward their names to the Canterbury district secretary. From these nominations the team will be selected, and the Rugby Union selectors are requested to give their assistance in this matter.
