HIGH SCHOOLS’ GOVERNORS
THE MONTHLY MEETING. Dr G. .E. Thompson presided over the monthly Fleeting of the Board of Governors of the Otago Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools, held this afternoon. The Secretary reported that tho financial statement showed (after payment of accounts amounting to £2,080 lOs lOd) a debit balance of £7,129 16s. Tho Rector of tho Boys’ School reported that the total number of boys now on the school roll was 583, of whom 156 were seniors, 596 juniors, and thirty-one paying pupils. I’he corresponding totals for the past five years (Julv, 1918, to 1922) wore respectively 454, 4W, 478, 518, ana 570. It would be noticed that the excess over last year’s roll number, which waa forty on March 1 and 19 last month, bad now been further reduced to thirteen. .Four of those who had left this term had bean transferred to other secondary schools, while fourteen had taken mi public or private employment. On Friday, Juno 29, Miss Moncroiff visited the school, and gave an address on behalf of the European studeute’ relief fund. The sum of £7 Is was contributed by tbe school in aid of the fund.
The Lady Principal of tho Girls’ School reported that tho total number of girls on tho roll was 463. Tho school was visited by Dr Marsdcn, Assistant Director of Education, and on July 11 and 13 by Uio secondary school insjxxtors (Messrs Parr and Kidson). The S.F.P. recommendations had not yet been completed. Miw Pvoscvoaw was absent for a period owinj to illness, and her place was taken bt Miss Ewing. Miss M’Leod had been ab sent owing to illness since July 5, aiJ would not be fit for duty for about / fortnight yet* )
