AUCKLAND July 19. At the provincial boxing championships at the Town Hall last night, the silver cup for the most scientific competitor was awarded to C. Purdy, and the Holmes Cup for the most scientific light-weight to G. Brown. In the lightweight semi-final Fletoincr won from Greig at points. The following will represent Auckland at tiie Kirill Island championships at Napier on July 27 and 23 :-Fly-weight, J. O’Sullivan; bantam-weight, G. Cammich; feather-weight, C. M'Conarhv defeated Smith by 199 in an exhibition game of 3,000 up, after conceding him 1,800 points. A pleasing feature Inst evening was the large attendance of ladies, who thoroughly enjoyed the game. The biggest breaks were: M'Conachy—l2. 86, 88, 60, 86, 35, 67, 321, 60, and 05 (unfinished}; Smith—s2, 20, 49, 56, 42, and 62. The- final scores were. M'Conochy. 3,001; Smith, 2,311. The play throughout was of a very high standard, both men playing exceptionally well. The spectators- who witnessed M'Conachy’s break of 321 will never forget it, as ho compiled it with all-round billiards. This was M'Conachy’s last appearance in New Zealand before leaving for England to participate in the world’s championship. SUNDAY TENNIS. SYDNEY, July 19. An injury to his ankle as the result of a fall caused Macbeth’s retirement during the event. Ilis partner became a member of a new team, who are two laps behind Nagel and Anderson.
