Tho Government is winding up tho State trawling industry, and has sold four of its trawlers. It is' stated that a Now Zealander purchased ono for £3,800 and offered £3.500 for another.

SHORTAGE IN AUSTRALIA

In his annual report, Sir Hairy Chauvcl, Inspector general of Military I'orces refers to the growing shortage of military horses in Australia. He says that the prospect of Australia producing in any quantity the class of horses which established such a record during tho last war is so doubtful that ho considers the matter worthy of serious attention. The last remount order from India for 4,000 horses look many months to fill. .thousands wore rejected, chiefly on account of bad conformation generally and want of substance and boric. It was obvious that the standard of the riding horse, .was deteriorating, and that the breeders were doing little to prevent it. POSTAGE RATES. (MELBOURNE, July 19. (Received July 19, at 11.20 a.m.) The operations of the Post Office for the year ended June oO .showed a profit of £1,459,850. The Postmaster-General proposes to recommend a redaction in the postage irom 2d to ltd.
