ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.—AN APPEAL.
TO TUE EDITOR.
Sir, —For some time past we have been painfully aware of tho urgent necessity for a new and up-to-date ambulance to cope with the greatly increased demand for transport. The Fire Board has repeatedly pointed out that the two machines at present in use are unable to maintain the'service as, it could wish. When a machine is laid up for repairs only one ambulance is available, and when it is remembered that calls are received from points fifty, sixty, and seventy miles distant, the anxiety can easily be understood. At present both machines are in need of overhaul, but it is impossible to release cither of them tor that purpose. In addition to the amount wanted for the above purpose, money is urgently required for tho many additional calls made on the association owing to the present unfortunate epidemic. The association is the body authorised to deal with the outbreak of influenza from which the community is suffering, and requires £2,000, for which it confidently appeals to tho public. It hopes that yon, sir, will assist its humanitarian work by opening a subscription list in your paper,—We are, etc.,
J. J. Clark, President. V. G, Bryan Kino, Chairman, D. H. Rogers, Secretary. July 19.
