The death is announced of Viscount Chaplin.—A. and N.Z. Cable. [Lord Chaplin waa born in 1841. Ho entered Parliament in 1868, and sat as a Lincolnshire county member for thirtyeight years, during which period ho successively filled the offices of Chancellor oi tlie Duchy of Lancaster, President of the Board of 'Agriculture, and President of the Local Government Board. He has been a consistent Protectionist from the first, and advocated Mr Chamberlain’s subsequent fiscal policy long before the latter had any thought of abandoning Freetrode. Ho won renown as a sportsman as well as a politician. He losT his Lincolnshire Beat in 1906, but eat for Wimbledon from 1907 to 1916, when he was made a peer.]
