REPATRIATION ACGCUNTANT’S THEFTS. WELLINGTON, May 30. At the court to-day Ernest William M'Carkell, accountant in the district office of the Repatriation Department, was charged with the theft of £1,153, and also with the forgery of Treasury vouchers (nineteen charges). The police state that accusal made applications for Joans for furniture alleged to have been supplied to returned soldiers, and when by the board he drew up the vouchers and issued cheques, the cheques being cashed by himself. 1 1 most instances fictitious names were used, but in some instances the names of genuine soldiers were used.
