ANNIVERSARY SERVICES
NORTH-EAST VALLEY CHURCH. Special services were held on Sunday in tho Presbyterian Church at North-east Valley to mark its anniversary. Tho. preacher at the morning service was the Rev. Tulloch Yuiile, of Knox Church, who addressed the congregation from Acta xxi., 14, on the importance of Christian service, and exhorted them, as servants of the Master, to press on with their good work. The afternoon service was conducted by Mr D. S. Beatli, superintendent of tho Sunday school, and the address was given by the Rev. F. Bowie, of Santo, New Hebrides. Mr Bowie’s address, which was especially directed to the children, was aptly illustrated by his experiences in tho mission field, and all his hearers were much impressed as he told of the great reforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the men, women, and children of Santo.
Tho evening service was conducted by the minister of the congregation, Rev. R. E. Evans, who spoke on ‘ The Ideals cf this Congregation.’ He believed that the congregation was out for definite experience in the Christian life and for definite service for God and man. King ago tho foundation was laid by those “who from their labors rest,” and during the many years succeeding the laying of the foundation intense activity had been evident. The building of God was still coming to maturity, and the united desire of the E resent office-bearers was to continue to uild worthy of their predecessors.
Appropriate, anthems were rendered by the choir at the morning and evening services, and in the evening Miss M. .Allen, of Oamaru, sang the solo ‘ O Rest in the Lord.’
