Mr J. S. Douglas, after his two years of office ns mayor, will be tendered a civic dinner by the mayor (Mr H. L. Tapley) and city councillors at the Savoy on Friday evening next. Hr 11. F. Sincock was a. passenger by the North express this morning, bound for Christchurch.

Mr N. Farmer (now of Mataura.) passed through Dunedin this morning on his way to Auckland'.
Mr IT. C. Jones, at present head master of the St. Clair School, has been recommended for the position as head master of the North-east Valley School, the appointment to take effect as from July 1. Mi- W. M. Luke, South Island representative for the Canadian Government Merchant .Marine, Ltd., is at present on a business visit to Dunedin.
Mr S. Dickson (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs J. S. Paterson (Tolago Bay), Mr and Mrs W. A. Rennell (Lawrence), and Mr and Mrs J. F. Wellings (Melbourne) are among the visitors staying at the Grand Hotel.
Visitors to the city staying at the Excelsior Hotel include Mr and Mrs T. Washhourne (Christchurch), Mr T. O’Connor and Miss O’Connor (Waipiata), Mr J. Lang (Palmerston South), Mr G, A. Perham (Christchurch), Mr-W. R. Saunders (Raurimu), Mr T. Stringer (Oamaru), Mr A. Stringer and Mrs G. Stringer (Otekaike), Mr J. Marchbanks (Beaumont), Mr and Mrs W. J. Wilson (Glenpark), Mr a.ncl Mrs IT. Cuthbert, Mr E. M. Lyons, Miss M. Affleck, Miss J. D. Falconer, Miss E. B. Pay, and Miss.J. Edginton (all of Invercargill).
