TRAIN RUNS AWAY
DASHES DOWN MOUNTAIN SIDE. A TERRIFIC CRASH. CREW MIRACULOUSLY ESCAPE. ?ross Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z, Press Association, SYDNEY, May 21. (Received May 21, at 10.40 a.rn.) A goods train of twentyvsix trucks, laden vitli coal and cement, from Lithgow, became near Lawson, and dashed down the mountain side at a rate of eighty miles an hour. The couplings midway in the train snapped, and the first section of the train forged ahead, but was soon overhauled by the rear section, which had gathered a terrific speed. The resultant impact derailed the engine and telescoped the trucks at Springwood, ten miles from the starting point. The wreckage piled high and caught fire. The-crew were violently hurled from the engine and trucks, but they miraculously escaped serious injury. Breakdown gangs are at work clearing the wreckage. It is expected that there will be no interruption of traffic after today.
