The steamer Tremere, from New York via Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, arrived at Dunedin yesterday morning, and was berthed at Hie A'iclom wharf to discharge several hundred tens of general cargo to the agency of the Federal Line. The Tremere will'complete discharge at Bluff, and will afterwards load at Australian ports for the United Kingdom. The Kota re, which arrived hero yesterday morning from Waika.wa with a cargo oftmiber. Is to sail to-day for Bluff and Invercargill. The Wairuna, from Vancouver and San Fianciaco via Wellington and Lyttelton, is due at Dunedin on Thursday to discharge a large quantity of Canadian and American cargo. She will afterwards go to Melbourne and Sydney to complete discharge. The Gale, is due here on Wednesday from Lyttelton, and is listed to sail the same day for 'Wellington and Wanganui via ports. The liner Rotorua is to leave Port Chalmers to-morrow for Bluff, where she will continue loading for England. The Breeze is due. at Dunedin on Thursday from Lyttelton, and is to sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Picton and Wanganui. Captain A. E. Barlow takes command of the Waikoua.iti at Lyttelton, relieving Captain J. Ryan, who comes ashore on holiday leave. The" Union Company’s cargo steamer Waitomo is expected to leave Nauru j Island early this week with a cargo of phosphates for Auckland. J

The Canadian Government steamer Canadian Planter arrived at Boston lost Monday from Auckland via New York. The Canadian Planter sailed from Auckland on March 24.

The Kawatiri, which had been laid up at Auckland for some weeks owing to the labor trouble at Newcastle, was recommissioned on Wednesday last, and sailed on Wednesday night for Newcastle, Sydney, Fiji; and Auckland. The Holmdale, which arrived at Dunedin this morning from Wellington, is to sail to-night for way ports ami Wanganui, The steamer Montrose left this afternoon for Brisbane to continue discharge of her cargo from Now Orleans. She will complete discharge at Sydney and Melbourne.

The Katoa is due, here early to-morrow morning from Auckland direct. Sho is now scheduled to sail on Wednesday for east coast ports and Auckland. The Kamo was expected to leave Greymouth to-day for Timam and Dunedin. She will reach here on Thursday, and after discharge will load general cargo for Westport and Greymouth. The Oorinna has been delayed at New Plymouth owing to rain. She is now expected to leave Wellington to-morrow for Dunedin, where she should arrive on Thursday morning. The vessel is listed to leave" hero on Thursday afternoon for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports. MOERAKI DUE TO-MORROW. The Union Company advises that the interstate steamer Moeraki is due at Bluff at 6 p.m. to-day from Melbourne. Sho is to sail at midnight for Dunedin, where she should arrive about noon to-morrow. The Moeraki is timed to sail from here to-morrow night for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Melbourne. CORINTHIC AT SOUTHAMPTON. Cable news has been received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company which states that their liner Corinthic arrived at Southampton last Wednesday morning from Wellington. The vessel left Wellington on April 6. ARMAGH PROM LONDON. News has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Armagh will sail from London on June 22 with cargo for discharge at Fiji, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. MIDDLESEX FROM LIVERPOOL. The Federal Company advise that the steamer Middlesex, which is at present discharging at Wellington, is to sail from there to-morrow for Lyttelton and Dunedin, where she will complete discharge of her Liverpool cargo. The vessel will later load for West of England ports for the Federal Company. RUAPEHU’S FIRE. The New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised by cable that the Eurpehu was seriously damaged by fire in holds Nos, 1,2, and 3. The message adds that there was no cargo on board the ship. The Ruapehu, which was to leave Southampton on June 21 for New Zealand, has been withdrawn for repairs. THE DOUGLAS MAWSON. The Government steamer Relief returned to Thursday Island on May 7, and reported no sign of the missing Douglas Mawson. The Relief had been away fourteen days, and made a careful search along the whole coast from Groote Eyeiandt and Mornington, weather conditions being perfect, but no trace of the missing steamer was found. NEWCASTLE COAL SHIPMENTS. The quantity of coal shipped from Newcastle for the week ended May 4 totalled 45,038 tons, made up of 25,953 tons for Commonwealth and New Zealand ports, 19,085 tons for overseas. Practically the whole of this came from the Newcastle and Teralba mines, the miners in which had full time. The dispute on the Maitland coalfiield affects between 7,000 and 8.000 men, and has reduced the weekly output from that field by upwards of 80.000 tons. A number of orders Which would have in ordinary times gone to Maitland were filled by the Newcastle mines. NEW AMERICAN LINERS. A cablegram received in Sydney recently from San Francisco states that the Oceanic Steamship Company has completed plans for two 500 ft twin-screw liners, which will be commenced immediately if the United States Government accedes to the company's proposal to renew the present Australian mail contract for ten years at a slight increase of rates. A. representative of the company is now en route to Washington to discuss the contract with the Postal Department. The new ships will ply between San Francisco, Honolulu, Pago Pago, and Sydney, shortening the running time to eighteen and a-half days. The vessels will be fitted with turbo-electric engines, and capable of doing nineteen knots in ballast, eighteen knots fully loaded, and for maintaining fifteen knots on a cruising radius of 20,800 miles. ORMONDE AS OIL BURNER. The mail steamer Ormonde, of the Orient Line, has been placed in the hands of her builders, John Brown and Co., Ltd., Clydebank, for the purpose of being converted from a coal-burning to an oilburning steamer. The installation of the oil fuel plant, together with the consid-. erable structural alterations involved, will occupy about ten weeks, and will find employment for about 600 men. The conversion of the Ormonde, and the advent of the two 20,000-ton oil-burning steamers now under construction for the Orient Line, will mark a further stage in the adoption of oil for ocean mail steamers. In the interval retraining before resuming her regular place in the Australian mail service, the .Ormonde will make a series of Orient Line pleasure cruises to Norway, sailing on July 21 from the Clyde, and on August 4 and 13 and September 1 from Immingham. THE PORT HACKING. Messrs J. W. Swift and Co. advise that the G. and D. Line steamer Port Hacking left Auckland on Saturday evening for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin to continue discharging New York cargo. She will probably arrive here on Saturday next, and after landing 556 tons of general freight and also a- consignment of case oil, will proceed to Melbourne and Sydney to complete discharge. THE CANADIAN SEIGNEUR. Messrs H. E. Tapley and Co. advise that the Canadian Seigneur, which arrived at Bluff yesterday morning from Sydney, is to sail to-morrow for Port. Chalmers. She should arrive on Wednesday morning, and will discharge Australian cargo and load for American and Canadian ports.
