ENGLISH BILLIARD CHAMPIONSHIP

M'OONACHY AGAIN A COMPETITOR,

[Special to the ‘ Star.’]

CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. “ I have been treated exceptionally well by billiard enthusiasts and the public alike throughout the North Island,” said Clarke M’Conachy, the New Zealand professional billiard champion when interviewed, “ and if I receive the same consideration _ from people in the South Island I will bo more than satisfied with my tour of New Zealand.” M’Conachv is playing exhibition matches in all the principal towns prior to proceeding to England to again contest the English championship in which he was so unlucky last year. Just prior to his arrival in Christchurch he spout a fortnight’s holiday in Timaru, during which ho did not once play a game of billiards. After fulfilling several engagements in and around 'Christchurch M’Conachy will play matches in one or two towns in South Canterbury and Otago, eventually working through to the Bluff. A tour of the West Coast will follow the Otago trip, and then ho will travel through the Bidder and Nelson, concluding bis New Zealand tour at Picton, probably in about four months’ time.

It is M'Conachy’s intention to leave in September to play matches in Australia and South Africa during November, December, and January, and he will arrive in Englaml_ about February of next year. This will give him two clear mouths in which to practice with tho ivory balls with which the English billiard championship is played. M’Conachy will in all probability play very few exhibition games in England, preferring to concentrate his attention solely on the championship, which _ is his main reason for again proceeding to England. M’Conachy played an exhibition game on Thursday evening. In a game of 750 he conceded his opponent (F. Khouri) 450 points, and won by 52. M'Conachy made two breaks of over 100, and several of over eighty.
