LEAGUE OF NATIONS AND ANZAC DAY

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is to be hoped that the Returned Soldiers’ Association will enter an emphatic protest against the action of the local branch of the League of Nations in proposing to hold a public meeting of the League on Anzac Day. Surely the League knows how hard the returned soldiers fought to have this day set aside for religious services of commemoration of those who died for Ring and country. Is the League to be the first body to set aside the wishes of the soldiers ? If the League starts this sort of thing it will not be long before we have the Communists, Labor party, etc., doing the same, and the day will be robbed of its religious significance. It would be interesting to know if the City Council gave permission for the meeting to be held, —I am, etc., Anzac. April 23.
