TIMARU RACES. CONCLUDING DAY. [Special io the ‘Star.’] There was a light, misty rain from early morning, which continued until after the fourth race, for_ the concluding day of the Tim am Meeting; and l then it became heavier and* made matters underfoot very uncomfortable, but .the course stood up ■well. Again there was a splendid attendance, and the racing was interesting, but not so profitable to southern owners as on Friday. Boadicea won the Autumn Handicap nicely, and was the best handled horse in the race. Palencia showed he had too much pace and condition for the opposition he met in the Steeplechase, and over the last half-furlong he cut down Manawapango and General Retain in great stylo. Warhaven was solidly supported hi the final event, and, though the going was not in his favor, ho got through at the finish to 'beat Avispado by a narrow margin. The latter is leaving T. Stivens’s stable, and will in future bo trained hr P. Hogan. During the afternoon tho Judicial Committee inquired into the riding of Battle Scene in the Pareora Handicap, and, after hearing the owner’s and trainer’s evidence, accepted tho explanation offered. They also inquired into the cause, of the bad start in the Beaconsfield Welter, and accepted the assistant starter’s explanation that he had held Pickaninny and First Aid at the harrier rise. All started in the Coleridge Hurdles, and Lomagundi was sent out a better favorite than Mandrake. Red Pal, who jumped wildly, led Meteorite and Trevclla past tho’stand. Then Meteorite took charge, and led into the back stretch from Red Pal and Orange Bitters. At tho hurdle near the six-furlong post Red Pal ran off, and Orange Bitters ran to the front, and was joined at tho next fence by Lomagundi; but, racing to the straight, Hereweare, who came from a long way back, took charge, and, with Lomagundi, jumped the last hurdle on terms. In the run home Hereweare won by a neck from the favorite, with Mandrake three lengths away, followed by Orange Bitters. Strathglass, and Apex. Time, 2min EOtsec. Totalisator investments, £1,414 A. Battle Scene was made a better favorite than Tatau Tatau in the Pareora Handicap, for which Limelight and Dancing Days were withdrawn. Mantua, Mythology (Vice-Admiral —Fairy Benzie, E. Shaw), and Laughing Eyes were next in demand. Laughing Eyes was first to show out from tho barrier, but immediately gave way to Thestius. At the turn for home Thestius was still in charge-from Battle Scene, with Petunia at her girths, and Mythology next. At the distance post Mythology came on the outside of the leaders, and in a slashing finish won by i a short head from Tatau Tatau, with ;

Mantua, who came with a very late run, a. similar distance away, followed by Laughing Eyes and Thestius. Time, Imin 14|50c. Tofalisator investments, £2,281*. Monsieur Boutado got away from his attendant prior to tho races commencing, and was withdrawn, from the Beaconsfield Hack Welter, for which Carmine was made a good favorite, with Contempt, Agnola, Linhope,. Kukume, and Guncase (CalibreMatchbox,' A. J. Peart) next in order. Linhope and Contempt were first out, but before going a furlong Brown Willie had taken charge, and had Guncase and Agnola next him. This was the order into

tho straight, and at the distance post Guncase had displaced Brown Willie, but had to bo ridden right out to beat Contempt by a short head, with Kukume a length and a-half off third., Then came Brown Willie, Frisco Mail, and Gay Life, Time, Imin 28sec. Totalisator investments, £2,099*.

W.-irb a von was withdrawn from the Autumn Handicap, which provided' a very even betting race between Angelo, Some Kid, and Boadicea (Clarenceux —Peronilla, C. Emerson), with Whipping Boy, Castellan, and Marching Order backed in that order. Angelo ana Whipping Boy at once went to the front, leading Boadicea, Castellan, and Some Kid ifi that order. At the far turn Some Kid began to move up, and'was on terms with Whipping Boy and Angelo as the field turned into 1 the straight, Angelo being first to cry enough. At the distance post Castellan_ threw out a challenge, and headed Whipping Boy and Some Kid; but her supremacy was shortlived, for opposite tho stewards’ stand Boadicea made a good run, and won by a length and a-half from Castellan; Soma Kid three lengths off, followed by Angelo and Whipping Boy. Time, Imin 40£sec. Totnlisator investments, £2,8945. Strathglase was the only withdrawal from the W'ai-iti Steeplechase, and General Petain was made a good favorite, with Palencia, Malincourt, Manawapango, Indus, and Fabianus next in order. Fabinnus at once shot out to the front, leading Indus and Palencia over the first fence, and falling at the next. Indus was just in front of Palencia, General Petain, and Manawapango at the stand double; but General Petain was first to land over tho second fence, and led Palencia, Indus, Malincourt, and Manawapango into the back stretch, where Pawerewore fell, and at the next fence Ruddy Gold baulked. Malincourt ran into second place at the far turn, and General Petain led Manawapango. Palencia, Indus, and Malincourt over the last fence in close order. In the run borne Palencia, who was the bestconditioned and most seasoned horse in the race, got up to win nicely by nearly two lengths from Manawapango, with General Petain a length away third-, followed by Indus (who broke down in the race), Malincourt, and Master Peter. Time, 4min 53sec. Totnlisator investments, £2.0115, Boeker Boy was made a good favorite in the April Handicap, with Happy Warrior, Marie by, Heraldry (Clarenceux—lxidy Holyrood, Metcalf), and Rigs o’ Barley also* well supported. , round and galloped three furlongs before ' being pulled up. The, starter waited for . him, but ho made a poor despatch, Heraldry and Markby getting out best, followed hy Boskcr Boy and Rigs o' Barley, fhe others being badly left. Heraldry ; was joined by Bigs o’ Barley at the homo . turn, and just lasted-long enough to beat Bosker Boy by. half a length, Rigs o’ Barley "being two lengths away and Happy Warrior next. Incursio, Happy Warrior, and Monsieur Boutado were withdrawn from the Temuka Hack Handicap, and Gossard (Martian—lngleneuk, Emerson) was made a better favorite than Sharpburst, with Kilfano, Dancing Days (Markhope—Princess Masca, M’Chesney), and Blazes next in order. Dancing Days was tho smartest to begin, and led Brown Lady, Courcelette, and Gossard to the torn for home; then tho latter took second place, and set sail after Dancing Days, the pair drawing right away from tho others. In a great finish he just got up in time to dead heat with Dancing Days. Kilfanc, who finished fast was two lengths off third, and Blazes next. Sharpbnrst ran last all the way. Time, Imin 16|sec.
