Miss Dorothy Macandrcw gave a delightful tea at the Otago_ Women’s Club Booms on Friday for her sister, Miss Marjorie Macandrew. Among those present were Mr and Mrs Glazebrook, Misses Loma Sidey, Edith Hnggitt, Maiy Johnstone, Gwen Gallaway, Kathleen _ Clapperton, Messrs Borman uaggitt, Sinclair (2), Sise, Holland, Solomon. Misa Denniston gave a small tea for Mrs Burns on Monday. Dancing at tho Cabaret on Saturday •were noticed Mr and Mrs Sidney Neill, Misses Laidlaw, Milne (3), Ulrich, Spence, Burt, Emerson, Messrs Laidlaw (2), Solomon, Beid (2), Stowe, Maunsell. Mrs Batchelor asked a few friends to tea on Monday to meet Miss Bond. Mrs Douglas Ramsay loft on Tuesday, accompanying her husband, to spend some weeks in Sydney. Mrs J. R.. Bartholomew gave a most delightful children’s party on Saturday in honor of her little daughter Helen's birthday, some thirty little folk spending a very happy afternoon in games and romps arranged for their amusement. A few adults were also present, among these being Mesdamcs C. Finlayson, G. Logan Robieson, A. J. Hall, M'Fnrlane, P. J, Hussey, R. Jopp (Moutere Station). Each child was presented with a gift when leaving, to its surprise and great joy. The Dunedin Nursing Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade hold its fortnightly meeting on Monday evening last, lome thirty members being present. After roll-cali and the disposal of routine business, Miss Dippie (corps superintendent) made suitable arrangements for assisting with the sale of poppies on An/.ac Day. Members then divided up into sections, and under the direction of the members of tho staff, “ put up ” various imagined injuries, from fractured hand and shoulder •pica bandages to remedial measures for hemorrhages and preparing a sick room preparatory to receiving a pneumonic patient. Dr Stuart Moore (honorary medical man to the corps) arrived later in tho evening and examined all work, put members through an oral examination, and gave many useful points that tend to comfort and lessen the inconvenience of the patient. Miss Dippie at the close of the evening thanked the doctor for his valuable assistance, members endorsing their appreciation of an evening well and profitably spent by a hearty handclapping. The golf tournament, held during four days of most delightful weather, in which many ladies took part, Mrs Dodgslmn proving the winner of the championship, was altogether a most successful affair. On Friday afternoon the Misses Mill (Port Chalmers) gave a most delightful afternoon tea at tho links, everyone having a good time. On Saturday afternoon the mixed foursomes were played. Mr White and Miss Watson and Mrs Sims and Mr Reid tied, the latter couple winning in the play-off. The lady members of the Balmaeewen Club entertained all present to tea, after which Mrs Lindo Ferguson (president) presented the various trophies won during tho contest. Mrs God by (Christchurch) responded in a neat little speech on behalf of the visitors, while Mr Kelly voiced the thanks' of the gentlemen for the pleasurable entertainment.

Mesdames Fitchett, Russell Ritchie, Harman Reeves, J. C. Xicholls, Jackson, Macassoy, fen., G. M’Lcan, Shand, Misses H. and C. Williams, Derfniston, Macassey, Rattray (2), Webster.

Mrs Spiers (Wellington), who has spent a little time here, returned north on Wednesday. Mrs J. Cowie-Xichols (Maheno) returned home at the end of the week.

The engagement is announced of Miss Eireno Hicks-Ross, third daughter of Mr and Mrs J. S. Hicks-Ross, of Manly, late of Timaru, New Zealand, to Mr John Marsland, second son of the late Mr John Marsland and Mrs Marsland, of Neutral Bay, formerly of Brisbane, Queensland. Mrs J. P. Service, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs D. Lawrence Adamson, left by the second express on Tuesday on her way to Sydney, where she will spend some months. Mrs Ritchie, “ Balvraid ” gave a small luncheon party for Lady Jellicoe on Wednesday. The table was beautifully decorated with magnificent roses in tall silver stands. Lady Jellicoe wore a purple fown, with small purple hat. Mrs Ritchie, lack satin and georgette. Among those present were Lady Williams, Mesdames C. Rattray, Theomin, Bridgeman, Russell Ritchie, George Ritchie, Lindo Ferguson, GalJaway, and Miss Alice M’Laren. Mrs Lindo Ferguson asked a few friends to dinner on Tuesday to meet their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Jellicoe. Among those present besides T)r and Airs Lindo Ferguson, were Dr and Mrs Stanley Batchelor, Mr and Mrs George Ritchie, Mr and Mrs John A. Cook.
