Douglas, Esq.) All Meetings at 8 p.m. mO THE ELECTORS OP THE CITY OP A DUNEDIN. DEAR SIR OR MADAM,— As a candidate for the position of Councillor for your City, it affords me great pleasure in placing before yon the main features why 1 have interested myself in municipal afiairs: —That the present Council has not been progressive during the last stx years, and it must bo due to their nonadministrative ability in not having put clown one mile of new tram lines, but taken up the loop to Carisfcrook. I am in favor ot immediate lines being put down at once — one to Maori Hill via Pitt street; one to Tomahawk via Anderson’s Bay or Tahuna; the. removal of the line Howo street to Duke street, and thence oi| to the Leith Valley; a line to Opobo. where there are sixty acres to build upon; also a lino to Waverley. The immediate building of workers’ homes, taking our population, which is at present somewhere about seventy thousand, and allowing for births, deaths, and immigration; only halving it, we would iooiorc six hundred houses a. year built to cope with the wants of ihe pernio. 1 am responsible to tho City Council for some one hundred and fifty pounds a year in rates, showing that my interests are identical with everyone who owns a house or wants to procure one for himself; and, what is more, wo want a Pair Kent Bill for the City of Dunedin, and not to be exp’oited by tho landlord system. I have had the practical experience in tho maintenance of roads and tho value of houses and land. Tho 1 Otago Daily Times,’ in its leading article, gives great kudos to tho retiring councillors, showing the profits of the trading concerns of tho municipality; but how much more has been lost in the administration of thefie concerns? If entmeted with a seat on tho Council, I will prove that I am capable and progressive; therefore I solicit vour Vote and Interest on THURSDAY Next. Yours obediently, HENRY V/ALTON PHILLIPS. MUNICIPAL ELECTION. AT SMITH’S HALL. HANOVER STREET, TO-NIGHT {Thursday), 19th, at 8 o’clock. A DDEESSES TO ELECTORS ON CITY AL AFFAIRS. Dr E. GORDON MACDONALD, H. A. LB CHEN, HENRY T. SANDERS.
