WOMEN FOE AUSTRALIA.

Emigration schemes to the overseas dominions have hitherto, says the London ‘ Daily Telegraph, ’ where women are concerned. dealt only with those of the domestic working class. At the present moment, when Australia is desirous of building up a larger population of true and sound white race, a project now taking shape is of much interest. Briefly, it is to secure about 150 ladies of good social status and advanced education to go out to the southern continent with a view of making their permanent homes there. They would be required to go as “ homo helpers ” to other ladies already settled with their husbands and families on the ranches and stations and farms away from the towns, in order to see for themselves the realities of life as they present themselves under such conditions. Airs Hornibrook, bettor known perhaps as Miss Bout (formerly of Christchurch, N.Z.), is the originator of the project, and in it are associated with her three or four wellknown Australian ladies. The idea has been fully laid before tho women’s branch of the Overseas Settlement Commission, and has secured its approval.
