ST. KILDA’S WATER SUPPLY.
TO THE EDITOH. Sir.—As a resident of Musselburgh for many yours, 1 can scarcely believe that we could ever have had a mayor or council who would have shown such a want, of common sense, as disclosed by your correspondent in Thursday night's issue, as to give a way'the 6in -main from Kensington" School to the drive, and which, up till 1910, when this happened, gave tlm whole borough such a plentiful supply of water. For what ? The right to connect to a 4iu main that was already supplying South Dunedin. The sin main cost £1,500. and wits part of the security on the £5,000 borrowed to reticulate the borough, and. apart from that, no council had the power to give away borough property. You would confer a favor on the ratepavers if yon would publish the names of ‘.lie mayor and councillors that were in
office in 1910, so that the mistake would not again be made of electing them to repeal such blunder, which has resulted in the shortage of water ever since.— I am, etc., ' Batepaver. March 31. (The mayor and council of St. Kilda in 1910 were as follow :—.Mayor, Mr D. C. Cameron, jun ; counci!—Messrs H. W. Allen, W. J. Burk, James I>. Cameron, W. M. Clark. S. B. Macdonald, II: M. Ewing, Charles J. Gore, J. 0. BohertEon, William Thompson, and John Harris. -Ed. E.S.]
