LAW DEBATING SOCIETY
The annual business meeting of Dunedin Law Debating society was hole. in the •lecture room, Supreme Court Buildings,_ on 'ihm?iiav evening. The attendance promised a successful year, there being approximately uin.y suuiems present. Mr G. T. Baylce phe chairman), in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, mentioned that during the year three dfdiatos, an oratorical contest,
and an Impromptu speech competition were held, and an interesting lecture was given by Mr J. B. Callan on tho intricate and difficult subject of workers’ compensation, lie niso expressed satisfaction that the University interfacility debating shield had an-ain appeared on the walls of the lecture room, (heir representatives having been Messrs G. T. Baylee and C. B. Barrowdough. Tho balance-sheet showed the society to have in hand the satisfactory credit balance of £5 10s Id.
The following office-bearers were elected for tho ensuing year President, Mr Justice Sim; vice-presidents, the law lecturers of the University—viz., ,Messrs J. B. Callan, jun., A. C. Stephens. F. B. Adams, H. S. Adams, H. L. Cook, A. O, belli, W. G. Hay, J. Lang, and H. B. Barrowolough; committee— Messrs G. T. Bayico (chairman), D. Taylor, J. N. Smith, A. Dowling, and C. B. Barrowclough; lion secretary and treasurer, Air G. W. Ross. It was derided to commence the debates as soon as possible, the syllabus to be drawn up bv the committee. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring officers.
