A big crowd gathered in front of His Majesty's Theatre at about 1 o’clock Ibis afternoon to see Hie start of Hie cycle road race between \V. 11. .Matthews and John Walker for the Otago fifty-mile championship. It was understood that tho race would start in front of His Majesty’s Theatre, but the start was for some reason made from in front of the Grand Theatre in Princes street. The race is from .Dunedin to Waihola and back. The start was made at 1.30 p.m., and (ho two cyclists were followed by a number of motor cars.
