MACANDREW’S BAY REGATTA

SUCCESSFUL AND ENJOYABLE, GOOD ROWING AND SAILING. HEATHER WINS FOURTEEN-FOOT GLASS. Maoandrow’s Bay looked its best yesterday on the occasion of the annual Boxing Day regatta, which was carried out with success in every respect. The sun shone brightly all day long, there was a largo attendance of the public, and the- committee in charge of the fixture hod everything so well .prepared that there was not a hitch in the arrangements. Hundreds oi people came by ferry steamer from Dunedin and others arrived by launch and motor oar, and soon the sloping hillside behind the bay was dotted with dozens of picnic parties. From this vantage point they wore given an unrestricted view of the day’s sport, which proved most interesting. The success of a regatta _ depends largely on the weather conditions, and in this respect the promoters wore singularly fortunate, for, while there was a full-sail nor’-eastcr for the yachtsmen, there was good water in the bay for the oarsmen. Probably the most attractive event of the day was the race for the fourteen-footers, this being won by Mr W. J. P. M’Culloch in his Heather. The rowing events were all closely contested, and there was also much to interest and amuse in the swimming and diving competitions. Throughout the day the members of the committee worked energetically, and none harder than the commodore (Mr E. H. Holier) and the secretary (Mr W. H. Riddell). Other officials were:--Senior ■vicecommodore, IV, Rowlands; judge, T- S. Mitchell (rowing); starter and umpire, F. W. Mitchell (rowing); handicappers—A. Grant (yachts), A. Welch (motor boats); stewards—o. Free, A. M'Sntohon, D. Whitburn (swimming), S. Ingram (rowing) ; timekeepers—(B. Komohan, J. B. Nelson, and Balk; judges—J. M'Donald, J. Vivian, L. Kelletb (sailing and motor boats); judge and haadicapper, W. Jenkins (swimming); starters —A. Grant and L. Kollett (yachts and motor boats). Results: —■ BOWING. MAIDEN FOURS. ■ Otago Hewing Club (J. Port Chalmers No. 2 crew finished a length behind Otago, and the same distance separated No. 1 crew'. Time, 7min 40sec. YOUTHS’ DOUBLE SCULLS. Port Chalmers Rowing Club (J. Salomon and D. Matheson) ... ... ... 1 Queen’s Drive Boating dub (J. M"Gregor and L. Joyce, P. S. Anderson, H. E. 'Lyon). Queen’s Drive and North End wore about three lengths ’from home and lying close to each other when theboats bumped, Port coming away and winning by several lengths. The third boat finished about three lengths behind the second. The Otago crew was unfortunate, the bow man slipping off his seat at tho start of the race and breaking his rigger in attempting to right himself. The North End crow entered an appeal after tho race, but the positions were not alterd. SENIOR FOURS. Queen's Drive (G. Pistor, J. Sutherland. H. Watson, J. Hotton) 1 Port Chalmers (J. Nelson, J.
