HEROIC GIRL

EPIC OF UNDERWORLD, RACING VENDETTA. LONDON, December 10. When a gang of Italians rushed into a club in London’s underworld and attempted to shoot one of the members, a young girl flung herself in front of a gun in the hope of saving the man. Extraordinary evidence of an underworld vendetta was given when five Italians were charged with attempted murder. The girl’s bravery was warmly commended by the magistrate hearing the case to-day. She is Louisa Doralli, the secretary of the club in which the shooting occurred. Counsel said that at midnight on November 19 Harry Sabini, an Italian, was sitting with friends in a Clerkenwell club. A gang of men armed with revolvers suddenly rushed in and threatened Sabini. The girl Doralli seized one of the men, causing him to drop his revolver. She was pushed aside by a man named Darby, who attacked Sabini with a bottle. Seeing a man aiming a revolver at ISa-bini, the girl immediately interposed her body between tho revolver and Sabini. Realising the danger to her, Sabini thrust her away, and was immediately shot. A scene of wild disorder followed, shots being fired and bottles thrown. It was stated that Sabini was recovering from his wounds. Tho accused were remanded for a woeG, bail being refused.

The affair is the outcome of the vendettas which have been earned on for many months against bookmakers and others on tho English racecourses. Dio police have succeeded in arresting a large number of the terrorists, but rival gangs have arisen, and are pursuing vendettas against each other.
