SOLDIERS AS SETTLERS

EFFECTIVE REPLY TO LORD HAIG. Press Association—By r Jjelegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 8. Air Barnes, in replying to Earl Haig’s reference to distressed ox-soldiers in Australia, said ■that this year the department had sent to the whole of Australia 33,000 immigrants, including 21,000 exservice men. From the immigrants who had returned to Britain they had received a neglible number of complaints. An investigation had proved that the failures were due entirely to the incompatibility of the individuals to adapt themselves to Australian conditions. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
