TWO CONFERENCES PROPOSED. UNITED STATES AND LATIN AMERICA. Press Association—By Telegraph—CopyrigW* NEW YORK, December 6. (Received December 7, at 10.20 p.m.) The Washington correspondent of the New York ‘Times’ says that Mr Harding's Administration hopes ultimately to succeed in interesting the European nations in a proposal for a world reduction of land armaments, tho first stop of which is seen in the coming Central American Conference, which is now extended to all South America. An announcement has been made that the Pan-American Conference at Santiago nest March will have as tho chief item on its agenda a reduction of naval and military armaments. The Administration hopes for tho success of both conferences, tlnia setting an example to tho rest of the world. It believes that until Europe balances its Budgets by reducing the cost of the huge military establishments economic stability is impossible. It is interesting to note that a Uruguayan proposal to form an American League of Nations, comprising the United States and Latin America, waa amended by Mr Hughes to read; “ Tho PanAmerican Conference should' consider measures for tho closer association of the Republic on tho American Ojntineiat with a view to promoting the common interests.” —A. and N.Z.
