ANOTHER NEW STEAMER. The Coaster Construction Company, Rossie Island, Montrose, has received an order from New Zealand fur a steamer for passenger service, with accommodation for over 1,000 passengers. This will he a twin-screw vessel, 172 ft by 30ft by 12ft, with- largo saloons and shade deck extending the whole length of the ship. Her twin-screw machinery will have independent pomps and two boilers to work under Howden’s forced draught, with arrangements for burning coal or oil. Electric light is to he fitted throughout. RECORD MOTOR SHIPS. Events appear to indicate a period of great activity in motor shipbuilding. According to ‘ The Motor Snip,’ seven important orders were placed for vessels of this class, one of them being for a 600 ft passenger liner, equipped with oil engines of 12,000 indicated horse-power. The importance of this contract may be gauged from the fact that the machinery power is more than double that in any existing motor ship. Two of the other new vessels which have just been ordered are cargocarrying craft, each of 20,000 tons deadweight. There is only one other cargo ship afloat of larger size. Apart the passenger liner, which will be built on the Clyde, all tho above vessels will be constructed abroad. CANADIAN GOVERNMENT LINE. The following movements of steamers of the Canadian Government Lino arc annoimced ; The Canadian Transporter arrived at Melbourne on November 9, and was duo at Newcastle about November 26 to complete loading for the Pacific Coast. Tin’s steamer will call at Fiji to load sugar. The Canadian Britisher, from tho Pacific Coast, arrived at Auckland on November 36, thence to Sydney via Wellington, thence to Melbourne and Adelaide, returning to the Pacific Coast. Tho Canadian Highlander sailed _ from Vancouver on November 11. She is duo at Newcastle about December 11, thence to Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. The 'Canadian Skirmisher was expected to leave Vancouver for Sydney direct about November 25. She is due at Sydney on December 25, thence to Melbourne and Adelaide. The Canadian Traveller is timed to leave Vancouver on December 20 for Auckland, thence to Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, returning to the' Pacific Coast via Newcastle. The Canadian Planter has sailed from Halifax for Australasian ports, and will be fallowed at about monthly intervals by the Canadian Cruiser and Canadian Constructor, maintaining practically a monthly service from the Atlantic Coast via Panama.
