STREET HOLD-UP
A STRANGE SEQUEL. Frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 2. Remarkable accusations have arisen out of tho recent street hold-up of a girl clerk while she was carrying to tho bank tho takings of the club an which she was employed. Cecil Oarey, a detective, and Septimus Salter, the secretary of the club, were charged with conspiring to defeat the administration of justice. For the prosecution it was alleged that following the arrest of a man accused of tho hold-up £42 was deposited in the stolen bag by Salter at Carey’s instance, thus aggravating tho seriousness of the offence. The bag contained only £5 when it was stolen. Salter and Carey, expecting the robbery, laid in wait for tho thief, whom they took to tho police station, whence Salter, at Carey’s instance, returned to the club and obtained extra money. The hearing was qdjourned.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
