UNION" COMPANY CONFIDENT. THE AUSTRALIAN POSITION. SYDNEY, November 30. (Received November 30, at 11,25 a.m.) The Union Company is confident that the Makura will sail at 3 o’clock on Friday. The vessel is down the harbor, and the passengers will bo conveyed l to it by ferry. The stewards re lured to sign on if volunteer seamen are engaged. Tha Wharf Laborers’ and the Officers and Engineers’ Unions have not yet discussed ilie latest developments. The company repents a good response by volunteers ini consequence of the largo number of men who are unemployed. The seamen in Sydney union circles are of opinion that the company will secure ono crew, but will bo unable to man all the idle steamers with volunteers. PROSECUTIONS AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, November 29. About fifty seamen are to be prosecuted by the Labor Department at Auckland in ■connection with the shipping trouble. It is understood that they will be changed with taking part in an unlawful strike, IPALOONA FOR THE NORTH TO-DAY. Instructions were received by the Dunedin manager for the Union Steam Shin (Company yesterday afternoon from heacl(quarters at Wellington to engage a free labor crew for the interstate steamer Dtaloona, .and to despatch her this afternoon for Lyttelton and Wellington. A number of men had registered their names at the labor bureau in Oranvford street during; the week, and the company’s officials having communicated with these, arrangements were made to sign them on the articles this morning. A full 'complement was engaged, and no hitch occurred in signing the men on end eliciting them their various duties. Some of the men engaged have had previous experience at sea.. 'The (Paioona has been held up at Dunedin since Sunday last, the majority of the crow having signed off tire articles on Monday. The vessel carries a large qnantity otf general freight in her holds shipped at Melbourne consigned to Lyttelton and Wellington. The Paioona’s movements alter discharge at Wellington ■will ho dependent upon any developments which may occur in connection with the dispute. She will not cany passengers on the northward trip. The Paioona was expected- to,leave her berth at the Birch street wharf at 4 p.m. Several, steamers completed loading last evening, and cleared outwards for various ports. The Corinm received quick despatch at the hands of the avatehsidess, sailing at 6 p.m. for New Plymouth and Nelson via ports, while the Calm sailed at 11.20 p.m. for way ports and Wang.v mii, and the Rama got. oiway at midnight for Wellington and Napier.
