(Received November 23, at 9.45 a.m.) There have been persistent and most •widely displayed news items in the American newspapers for (lie past fortnight in regard to the Kn Klnx Klan, and it promises to hold public attention. The Mayor of New York (Mr Hylan) has ordered the Police Commissioner to treat the Kn Klux Klan as he would bomb throwers, and not to permit the organisation to undertake any activities in the city. Two prominent divines (heads of noted Protestant churches) have replied defending the Kn Klux Klan, and announcing that the canvass for members will progress despite all opposition, and will be extended to Canada and Great Britain. Governor Allen, of Kansas, ordered the State District Attorney to .take Statewide legal action against the Kn Klnx Klan.. He has withdrawn its charter, and states that he will prosecute all its members. Senator Walsh liar, appealed to Mr Handing to order the disbandment of the Kn Klnx Klan throughout the Slates, citing the precedent of President Grant, who acted against a similarly named organisation after the Civil War. The Kn Kinx Klan opened a mooting in Atlanta (Georgia), which was attended by delegates from all parts of the country. It is understood that the Ku Klnx Klan is considering means to protect the cmranisation against attack. Popular feeling against the Kn Klux Klan is high.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
