WOOL QUOTATIONS. Messrs Murray, Robert?, and Co., have received the following wool market quotation from their London agents, dated the 24th hist.;— 66’s, yielding 60 per rent., Is at the opening’ of present series, Is Ekjd at the close of last series; 50’s, yielding 65 per cent., Is 4d and Is 44-46’s preparing, yielding 74 per cent., and 9fd : 44-46'’s carding, yielding 72 per cent,, 9|d and B£d; 40-44’a, yielding 75 per cent., and 8d; 36-40’s, yielding 75 per cent., 8d and 7jd. Success is attending tho first call for shares issued by the Mercantile and General Insurance Company, Ltd., state the directors of this concern. Within five days of tho appearance of tho first intimation no less than £45,000 has been subscribed by tho general public. Incidentally, returns from tho South Island are incomplete, owing to tho 'shipping strike. It is claimed that this tangible exhibition of the public’s faith in a dominion-owned and controlled insurance company fully justifies tho directors’ confidence in. its ultimate success. Tho returns to shareholders in other New Zealand-established institutions of a similar character have boon so good that people obviously have no qualms about investing their savings in the new firm.
