THE SHOW.

•To-morp.ow Talmna Park will once again ho tho scene of tho Otago A. and P, Society’s Summer Show. Tho reversion to early instead of late summer still ‘holds, and seems likely to hold. It is better to soa tho live stock with the 'bloom of the season op thorp than, tyhon they are show--

[worn and when'past competition, lias rc- ( slrictod prize-taking issues, if mot made them practically foregone conclusions. It seems also to suit spectators hotter to .hold the show before Christmas. For some of them this, the growing season, of the year, is the only time when . Nature and her marvellous processes cam enchain their attention. For others it afford,s a splendid opportunity to meet country cousins and arrange mutual visits for the holiday season to como. (liven lino "weather, it -is practically certain that this years foregathering near the marge of the ocean will 1m the customary success. Not a school child but knows of tbo renowned fixture, and would be bitterly disappointed) if not taken to it; and it is the enthusiasms of youth which make the older generation put disillusionment behind it and revive old interests. This particular one is a healthy interest. For that reason it might bo disappointing to find that show entries tend to show a numerical decline were it mot realised 1 that farmers, though present markets hold out excellent prospects, have considerable leeway to make up, and can with difficulty spare the time and money involved in a visit to town with their exhibits. It cam be understood that at such a time the gospel of work and of increased production and extreme thrift may pull the opposite way to inclination and old-established tradition. Wo can only remark that the A. and P. Show fulfils such good and useful purposes that it would bo false economy for any to stay-'away who can possibly 'attend, whether they bo dwellers in town or country.
