ROSLYN TRAMS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—As one who has boon a, constant, traveller on the Roslyn care during the past, fourteen years, I have witnessed many instances of overcrowding; but- to-day was ilw limit, ninety-five adult passengers being carried from the foot, of Rattray street. Added to these wero ten school children who boarded I,lie car at Arthur street,. Five of the adult passengers wore riding on the carriers provided for luggage, and their weight would he easily 10st each. It this sort, of thing goes on much longer something more serious than tho breaking of a strand or two in the rope will occur. It .is useless expecting tho conductors to ■see that there is no overcrowding, as I have seen them oponly defied by prominent city men, who have only a limited time for lunch and must get up tho hill and hack as quickly as possible. In such circumstances it, is a wonder we have not iilid a serious accident ou this line. Is there no by-law dealing with overcrowding that can bo put in operation? Surely a little co-operation between the council and travelling public would be in the interest of all ooucorncd. I am sure, from conversation with several prominent business men. that if the council could meet, them (hey would be willing to alter the lunch hour, and in this way help to regulate the traffic on this line considerably. My sympathies are with the conductors. It seems an impossible task for them to get round such crowds as arc carried and collect «1! the faros and still keep their temper. Groat credit is due to these men for the way they carry out their duties. I hope some abler pen than mine will take this matter up, and devise some plan 'to alter tho present dangerous state of affairs lie fore the busy season comes round.-—I am, etc., B. Beknbt.
