Dr Hermes (Minister of Finance), conferring with the Reparations Commission, contended that coal was part and parcel of the Reparations problem. Ho said that between July and September Germany bad io s'end to the Allies 4.500,000 tons, receiving in return only one-third to one-half of the market price. During the same period Germany had had to import 7,000,000 tons of coal at a cost of 150,000,000 gold marks. Five million tons came from countries where the exchange was against ■ Germany. Further •importations from Britain and further supplies to France and Belgium were impossible.
