ANGORA’S OVERBEARING ATTITUDE

DICTATING TO THE ALLIES. CONSTANTINOPLE., November 6. (Received November 8, at 11.30 a.m.) The Angora authorities have notified the Allies of further encroachments on their authority. Bread, as the result of tire new tariff, will, cost at least double the price at which it was sold at Angora. There will also be a substantial increase in other prices. Angora also notified the Mixed Court, which was constituted under the capitulations, that it must cease to function. The International Sanitary Commission, to which the Allies contribute, has been informed that the Angora Government has assumed control of the sanitary administration. Finally, regulations, have been issued that no jiassports from Constantinople shall bo issued to an Ottoman subject without a Turkish police vise. • This means that no Ottoman can leave the city without the Angora Government’s permission. This regulation is possibly designed to prevent the exodus of men available for military service and' pro-Sul-tauites. The Angora authorities arrested Kernel Bev, aid ex-Miuistor and editor of the lending anti-Nationalist paper, which ceased publication some_ time ago. The High Commissioners decided that this is a form of ‘ tyranny which cannot _bo tolerated while the Allies arc responsible for law and order in Constantinople. The Allies have not yet sent a reply to the other .notifications, which relate to matters outside the scope of the High Commissioners, and must bo reserved for consideration of the Governments.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
