LLOYD GEORGE ON THE NEAR EAST

ADVICE TO THE GOVERNMENT. LONDON, November 7. (Received November 8, at 1.50 p.m.) Ah' Lloyd George, speaking at Newcastle, said that the Eastern question was again showing signs of inflammation. It had to bo bundled carefully. A groat conflagration had been prevented by the admirable conduct of the British troops under General Harington. There would have been no troops but for tho late Government's prompt action. Air Lloyd George continued: “We stood without France or Italy and we accepted the responsibility: Now the Turk said : ‘Wo have got rid’ of that fellow; let us look at the new Ministry,’ and ho came to the conclusion that the time was opportune for another try on. If the Government stands by the flag wo shall be wholeheartedly behind, Ministers. The only way to deal with tho Oriental is to stand up to him. If the Government is not firm war will break out in tho Balkans, and spread as it did in 1914. The now Government must wake up now. Sleepers arc all right on tho "railwayis, but not in foreign politics.’’—A. and N.Z. Cable.
