HOSPITAL HELPERS’ ASSOCIATION. “In moving (lie adoption of the report and balance-sheet, 1 regret- tho small attendance,” said Mr F. G. Gumming at tho final meeting yesterday of the Hospital Helpers’ Association, formerly known as the Hospital Saturday Association. Ihe association,” ho continued, ’ has done a magnificent amount of good. It is quite clear that, judging by tho attendance and general opinion, tho association will be better engaged in dealing with its own particular affairs. Tho association is deeply grateful to the ladies for their splendid efforts during the existence of the association.” The report was then read by tho chairman. It was ae> follows; —The committee regrets that tho animal collection did not realise the amount anticipated. The collection was divided between the KaritaneHarris Hospital and the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society, each society receiving £l5O. The street collection realised £234 19s, and great praise is duo to the noble, band of lady collectors who worked so hard in collecting this amount. Die sum of £SB 18s lid w:;is collected in the Mornington district, and great praise ia duo to Miss K. Geerin ami her helpers for this very handsome contribution fromthe Mornington district. The amount received from the schools did not come up to that of previous years ; hut the committee was very grateful to tho schools that forwarded their contributions, £ls 16s 9d being received from this direction. Of late years it. had been very difficult to organise collections in tho country districts, and in many districts the committee was unable to arrange for a, collection being made last year, with a result that only £4l 16s 8d was received from country districts. The' committee desires to express its appreciation to all those who : assisted in the country districts in obtaining this amount. To the noble band of lady collectors in town and country' the association’s thanks are again duo, as it was by the efforts of the ladies alone that, tho work of tho association had been carried on. Thanks were also duo to the City Council for privileges granted, and to tho National Bank staff for receiving and counting the collection. At the last meeting of tho committee the question of the continuance of tho societv was discussed, and notice of motion had been riven for tho consideration of members at the annual meeting—“ That the society should |he voluntarily wound up, and that, each of the beneficiaries should make its own individual appeal.” In conclusion, (he committee desired to thank one and all for the support accorded in tho past. The society had been the means of collecting a large sum of money educe its inception, land had been of - immense benefit to |various philanthropic societies in the city; -but it had been proved that the ordinary j street collection would* not now proride (sufficient funds for the need of the various societies .associated with tho association, and it appeared that it would be best for each of tho beneficiaries to now make its own arrangements for providing the ncce.ssary means of carrying on. Mrs F. Foster seconded tho motion for the adoption of the report and balancesheet.
It having been mentioned that there was a balance in hand of £1 4s lid, tie motion was carried.
