OBITUARY
The death occnirred ,at Nelson on Wednesday of Mr Frederick Liloy, an old resident and a veteran of the Crimean War. Air Liley, who had reached the advanced age of ninety years, wav', hale and hearty until a few weeks ago. .Ho war, a native of Weßterhani, in Kent. Ho was tho proud possessor of Britkah and Turkish medals- for service in tiny Crimean War. He wan on tho mounted isteif under the command of Lord Raglan. He wa-s in tho Battle - of Hibernian, and at Iho taking of-Sebastopol. Oat of the company to which he belonged, .numbering fifty-six, only liley and three others neturned alive to England, most of the fii'ty-two succumbing to cholera. Air Liloy was married in the old church at Vstepncy on October 1, 1856, and the coupha had lived in Nelson, for nearly fifty years. Airs Liley predocea.sed her husband in February last. When the Nelson Provincial Council decided to form a settlement at Kararaea. Air Liloy proceeded with the first lot of soWers,"and he was the first mail to step ashore at Karamea.
