STONES THROWN ON SCHOOLMASTER’S HOUSE, AND THE AFTERMATH. Two young men threw stones upon the »oof ot 'the schoolmaster's house at Ladbrooks, Canterbury, on the night of October 1, and aa the result of the schoolmasters summary administration of justice to one of the ‘'offenders,, five young men raided his house, and on Wednesday the whole story was unfolded at the Magistrates Court, before Mr Wyvcm . Wilson, S.M. The evidence showed' that Walter Alexander Brown, the schoolmaster, was writing in the front of Ids house on the evening of October 1, when stones began to fall on the roof. Hia brother and wife stole outside, and went along a hedge, when they were able to see two men throwing the stones. They could bo plainly Wentified, as. it was bright moonlight. Brown, who' was very excited, charged one of tho defendants with repeated stone-throwing on his house, knocked him down, and kicked him. Shortly afterwards a party raided his house, whore a lot of struggling took place. The magistrate held that Brown had administered a Thrashing far severer than was necessary, and fined ihim 40s. The other five would bo convicted of raiding the schoolmasters house, and they were lucky not to have been arraigned for breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. They would be each,-fined £6 end ordered to pay costs. Tho iwo defendants charged with stonetjjrowing would be fined' an additdoral 40s And cori-3 for that offence.
