MINING
WAIEI RETURNS. The Waihi Gold Mining Company, during the period ended September 30, crushed and ipated 15,347 tons of ore for « return of 4)290 fine ounces of gold and 36,8050 zof silver. In the corresponding period of last year 14,236 tons yielded 3,5400 z of gold and 35,1440 z of silver. The following information has been cabled to the head office of the company in London:—No. 12 level—Martha lode, north section: Driving west the next 50ft essays 11s 3d per ton. No. 13 level— Martha lode, north section: West of No. 4 shaft crosscut, tho next 46ft of driving assays 41s per ton. Martha lode, north section j East of No. 4 shaft crosscut from 151 ft to 190 ft, tho drive is off tho course of the lode, and from 190 ft to 225£t the assay value la 15s 6d per ton. RISING SUN. The property of the recently reconstructed Rising Sun Gold Mining Company, at Owharoa, is again in vigorous operation. The manager, Mr M'Laren, has completely tho clearing and retimber-in-g of the levels rendered necessary through several rather severe fails in the ■bottom level that took place during the non-working period of reconstruction. The Government has granted £ for £ subsidy tip to £I,OOO towards the further prospecting of the mine, and this, with the subscribed capital, should soon , see tho battery again crushing. A new air compressor is to be immediately installed, when pumping will be resumed, and the driving of the low level proceeded with toward the values proved to exist under -the winze. The manager is contemplating breaking out ore from No. 3 reef for crushing as soon as circumstances permit. The battery meantime is to be overhauled.
