BAPTIST UNION CONFERENCE
The fortieth annual conference of the Baptist Union of New Zealand opens hero next week, and continues for ten days. Delegates from the various Baptist churches throughout the dominion will arrive on Tuesday evening. Tho first meeting will bo a Prohibition rally on Wednesday next, at 7.30, when the Hey. R, S. * Gray, organising secretary of the union, will preside and speak. The business of the conference will begin on Thursday morning, and in tho evening a social tea will bo tendered to the representatives. The Revs. R. H, Knowles Kempton and Leslie J. 13. Smith will speak on behalf of the local churches, and tho Rev. 11. E. Edridge and Mr Samuel Barry, of Auckland, will respond on behalf of tho visitors. At the close of tho social functions tho president will deliver his address from the chair, and a communion service will bo conducted by the Rev. R. H. K. Kempton. A harbor excursion lias been planned, for next Saturday afternoon, and a concert will be rendered in tho evening by the combined Baptist Churches choirs.
