LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. [Special to the ' Star.’] WANGANUI, September 25. The Ladies’ Golf Championship was continued in lovely weather, sunny, calm, and cool. The 'course was in perfect order. Mrs Kayo met Mrs Guy Williams, and a hard struggle was fought. Mrs Kaye was 3 up at the eleventh hole. _ She drives a very long ball, but is a little erratic round' about the greens. Mrs Williams won the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth holes, making the game all square. Mrs Williams finished 2 up and l to play. Miss Brown (Napier) beat Miss Payton, last year’s runner-up, 5 and 4. Miss Brown was playing beautiful golf, and deserved her win.
1 Mrs M’Carthy had a hard fight with I Miss S. Watson. Mrs M‘Car thy was 1 up at the second hole, but lost the two | short holes, leaving Miss Watson 1 up at 1 the sixth. Mrs McCarthy squared at the next, taking a good four (one under bogey). I The next three holes were halved, Miss | Watson wanning the eleventh in . 3-4 Four more holes were halved. Airs M’Car- ‘ thy then winning the sixteenth, making lit all square. Airs M’Carlhy won the | seventeenth and became 1 up, but lost I the home hole 6-5, At the nineteenth j holo Airs M’Carthy holed out in 5, Miss i Watson slicing into the bunker and j reaching the green with her fifth. Airs Murphy (Hutt) was not playing her I best game, and lost to Aliss Bell (Here- | taunga). Mrs Alurphy was suffering horn a bad bronchial cold. Aliss Bell finished 3 up and 2 to play. Another close game was that between ■ Airs Russell Grace and Aliss Craoroft Wilson, tiie latter winning .2 and 1. j Airs Russell Grace entertained the golfers ! up the river by steamer on Sunday and at her home for afternoon tea. The visitors enjoyed walking round her beautiful garden. i To-morrow Miss Wright and Aliss Gambrill meet, and this should bo the match : of the day. THIRD ROUND RESULTS. Kaye, 2 and 1. Airs Alarchbanks beat Aliss ATClure, 1 up. Miss Brown beat Aliss Payton, 5 and 4. Alias C. Wilson beat Airs Russell Grace, 2 and 1. Airs APCarthy beat Aliss S. ,Watson, 1 up. Aliss Bell beat Airs Alurphy, 5 and 2. L.G.U. BOWL. The L.G.U. Challenge Bowl was won by Airs Stewart (Feilding), 96-18-78; Airs Nolan (Gisborne), 98-20-78, runner-up.
